CHARLES NORMAN (NORM) BURNS February 9, 1943 - November 4, 2010 All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players, They have their exits and entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts. - William Shakespeare It is with great sadness that the family of Norm Burns announces his passing after a brief illness, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the age of 67 years. Norm will be lovingly remembered by his spouse of 16 years, Jocelyne Edwards (her daughter Alixe) and his children: sons Todd and Tim (Kristen) and newly born granddaughter, Danielle, as well as Norm's sister Peggy Burns of Toronto, Ontario. Norm will also be fondly remembered by numerous dear friends, near and far. Norm was predeceased by his father, Cecil, and mother, Lois. Norm was the great-great-grandson of the famous poet Robbie Burns. A well-known native of Winnipeg and a natural leader, Norm began his global career with the inception of C.N. Burns POS Systems. Always interested in people and their surroundings, Norm followed his instincts and created an international concern: Aquarian Industries, which included oil rigs, mines and various forms of watercraft manufacturing. He was especially proud of his award-winning canoe paddles! Gregarious and environmentally astute, Norm formulated Cypher Environmental Ltd. about 10 years ago. Well-traveled and with numerous international connections, he grew this venture to 73 countries in the world. Norm, always positive and enthusiastic, served on various corporate and charitable boards and was a proud director of numerous organizations, including the Winnipeg Ski Club and the 1967 Commonwealth Games. He was also the Regional Director of the Canadian Marketing Association, celebrating excellence in marketing. He was also extremely proud of his lifetime achievement award in marketing. A Memorial Service in Memory of Norm will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 1:30 p.m., at the Fort Garry United Church, with Rev. Gordon Taylor and Lori Stewart officiating. The family would like to extend their warmest regards to the caring staff on the Palliative Unit at the Riverview Health Centre.
